Chessington & Hook Voluntary Support (CHVS) is a registered charity which was first set up in 1981 and has now been active for over 40 years.
Our aim is to enable less mobile members of the community to continue to attend medical, social and other essential appointments where they have no other source of help.
We also organise a couple of social events each year (e.g. afternoon tea, Christmas lunch) for those who use our service, to give everybody the opportunity to get together socially.
We can provide help with the following:
Transport to medical appointments (doctor, dentist, hospital etc)
Transport to social activities (Phoenix Club, church groups, hairdressers etc)
Help to get essential shopping (either with or without you)
Collection of prescriptions from the chemist
Occasional minor DIY/repair jobs (changing a light bulb etc)
We rely on our users to give a small donation each time we provide help to cover running costs.
All our members are Volunteers who give their time freely in the interest of helping others.
We are here to lend a hand when others cannot.
We operate out of a small office in the Hook Centre, which we rent from Kingston Council and which is staffed by one of our Volunteers every weekday, Monday to Friday, between 9am-12 noon (except Bank Holidays), with an answerphone outside office hours.
Our number is 020 8397 6298
We always need new Volunteers to help us to deliver the service within Hook & Chessington.
If you live locally, would like to help others and can spare as little as an hour a month, we would love to hear from you.
We need Volunteer:
· Drivers to help deliver our services (mileage expenses can be reclaimed)
· Office Staff, helping out when you have a morning to spare (training will be given)
We are a small group united by our interest in helping others and would love you to join our community!
